Elevator Safety

elevator safety

The other day I walked into an elevator. It was one of those old elevators that kind of shakes when it starts moving. I then looked up and noticed the inspection certificate paper was current and the safety notice was good for another three months. This made me relax a little while I zoomed up several floors.

Now, what does this have to do with Servers? Servers are an elevator to your company data. You have to use a server to get to your data, just like you use an elevator to get to your floor. When was the last time you had your server and data backups “Safety Inspected?” I have been to clients where their server had been in distress for several months and no one knew. Fortunately, I was there on an unrelated project and I always like to check the health of a server when I am onsite. I was able to repair and get the health of the server back up to specification.

Just like an elevator, users can’t see the current state of the motors and cables. Just a reminder to have your SERVER “safety checked” by us at least every few months just to make sure the “cable that holds the elevator” is not ready to break.
