You are at home late at night and you hear a knock on the door. You don’t open the door but you see a city worker all dressed in city-worker clothes with a bright yellow safety vest and a hardhat . He says that there is an issue with your house that he needs to urgently check. He asks if you can open the door. You see the seriousness in his eyes. Do you quickly let him in, so he can fix the issue? Or do assume he is an imposter trying to get access to the inside of your house?
Oh! Wait a minute. It’s only an eight year old dressed up like a city worker. He just wants candy. How cute. It’s Halloween Night!
A little bit of paranoia is good.
Everyday is Halloween for me. I always assume everyone is out to get me. Everyone is pretending to be someone they are not, to trick me. This is what I want everyone to think, especially online and especially with email.
Email is the Trick and when you click on the fraudulent links, the bad guys get their treat.
91% of cyber attacks start with a phishing email. They are looking for users to click on the email link or open an email attachment. Then bad things happen. Happy Halloween!
