Question of the Month – March 2010

Question of the month

This month we begin a new feature — questions and comments from our readers! A very special thanks to our client Chris Alberti from Colorado River Profusion, Inc. and Horizons Distribution, Inc. for his great idea of a ‘question of the month’ feature for our newsletter!

question markLast month, Chris asked: When I back up my data, why does it have to rebuilt and how do I fix it?
Chris, when you back up your QuickBooks data, a default setting is to ‘Verify’ the integrity of the data file; if QuickBooks detects any reason to doubt such data integrity, it will automatically suggest to run ‘Rebuild’ to address any possible problems. To disable QuickBooks from verifying prior to a backup, on the backup screen, click on the Options button and select ‘No verification’ (see screenshots below):

While you can disable QuickBooks from verifying prior to a backup, you might have a data file that requires maintenance and not know about it. If Verify constantly detects problems with the data file, you need to have a professional look at it (yes, us!)
