Do not be alarmed by the title and do not fear.
There’s good news in this update – I promise. Here are the facts: On 31 May 2017, QuickBooks Desktop 2014 support will be history. According to the Intuit website, access to support services and Intuit attached services will be discontinued for the 2014 version of QuickBooks Desktop as of this date. This change will include the following Editions:
- QuickBooks Pro
- QuickBooks Premier
- QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions
- QuickBooks Accountant Edition
- QuickBooks Mac
Click here for further details on this Disco policy. If you are currently using any of the versions listed, you will need to upgrade to the current version in order to continue receiving support services.
Change is hard, but this update will mean new and exciting capabilities. Here’s what you need to do to prepare:
Upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop 2017 Well Before the Service Discontinuation Date
I encourage you not to wait until the end of May to complete the upgrade. There is no benefit to waiting until the last minute. Worse – imagine, for example, not being able to run payroll because your software no longer supports it.
The sooner you upgrade, the more time you will have to familiarize yourself and better understand how features in the 2017 version can benefit your processes.

Ensure You Meet Desktop System Requirements
Upgrading to Desktop 2017 may require updates to other components, such as Windows Server. If you have multiple users, ensure everyone your systems meet system requirements. Click here to review the system requirements for Desktop 2017.
It may seem like software companies are always putting out yearly updates and at the same time discontinuing updates and support for old versions. Reason for new versions are to introduce new features and functions while improving system robustness and stability. This year is no exception to that. This is designed to improve processes, which increases productivity, and helps organizations operate faster and more efficiently. Consider this change an exciting enhancement and leave your 2014 version behind with confidence!
Let’s Disco 2014 away together!
