What do an Oscar-winning director and an award-winning QuickBooks Professional Advisor have in common? For both, the focus is not on the bottom line but on the merits of the work itself.
Alejandro González Iñárritu, Oscar-winning director once said when asked about the financial merit of his films: “I am much more interested in people talking about the grammar of the film, what the film is about, how we told the story and the experience was like for them. All the financial things should be a consequence of that.”
Like Alejandro Iñárritu, I am much more focused on the essence of what we do, what our work is about, why we do what we do, and most importantly how technology solution experience is for the end-user client. Profits will generally follow that.
The essence of what we do is to enhance accounting and management information system processes for organizations by maximizing financial, operational, and technology solutions.
Our work is about improvements in financial and accounting information systems. It is about creating efficiencies in business workflows, including inventory, manufacturing, job-costing, field service, and retail operations. We use technology to institute these improvements and efficiencies.
We do what we do to enable success through technology.
As we begin 2016, I reflect on one of the highlight moments of the past year – winning the Top Ten & Top Integrations ProAdvisor award at the 2015 Scaling New Heights conference. Something else I share with the award-winning director: winning the award among such a fantastic group of colleagues, it was remarkable to share it with them. And to share it with my wife and my son who were with me at the conference. Forget about the award and the accolades, few will care the next day. But that moment that you get to share with the people you love and the people you work with, it was very fulfilling, almost spiritual in a sense. They are ultimately the reason why we do what we do.
